Narcotic Investigation Leads to Large Heroin Seizure in Somerset County

Authorities seized more than 7,000 doses of heroin with a street value of $75,000.

Authorities in Somerset County recently arrested a man and seized 150 bricks of heroin, with a street value of more than $70,000, on Saturday, May 9, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano said.

The heroin seized by authorities from Rahsjahn Courtney, 38, of Plainfield, amounted to 7,500 doses, with an approximate street value of $75,000, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office’s Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force received information that Courtney would in the area of West High Street in Bound Brook and in possession of a large amount of heroin on Saturday, authorities said.

Detectives subsequently set up an investigation team and observed Courtney driving a gold Plymouth Breeze early Saturday morning. They then conducted a motor vehicle stop and informed the 38-year-old man of the ongoing narcotic investigation.

Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit responded to the scene and conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle being operated by Courtney, authorities said. The K-9, “Apex”, indicated there were narcotics in the vehicle’s trunk.

After acquiring a search warrant, detectives searched the vehicle and discovered 150 bricks of heroin in a shoebox in the trunk.

Courtney was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with Intent to distribute and was transported to the Somerset County Jail with bail set at $200,000 cash only.
