Somerset County Crime Stoppers Increases Reward In Fatal Hit-and-Run
George Kavanaugh, 75, was killed in Somerset County on Friday, March 6.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano announced the Somerset County Crime Stoppers have raised the reward initially offered for information regarding the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run earlier this month.
Crime Stoppers initially offered $2,500 for information and increased the reward to $5,000. Crime Stoppers have again increased the reward to $10,000 for information regarding the vehicle that was parked in front of the front of the Lincoln Hose Firehouse, 34 Warren St., between 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., according to the prosecutor’s office.
At 9:25 p.m. on March 6, George Kavanaugh, 75, of Somerville, was standing on the sidewalk outside the firehouse waiting for a ride from a friend. While waiting, he was struck by a light-colored vehicle that had been “idling” and parked in the area in front of the the Lincoln Hose Firehouse.

Kavanaugh, a former fire chief, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
