Sunday is Father’s Day, the day we celebrate the first man in our lives. He’s the guy who can fix anything. Maybe he’s the guy who taught you how to play sports. Or maybe he’s the guy who took you fishing, or to your first ballgame.
The holiday first took place in Fairmont, W.Va. on July 5, 1908. It was organized by Grace Golden Clayton, who wanted to celebrate the lives of the 210 fathers who had been lost in the Monongah Mining disaster several months earlier.
So, to Grace Golden Clayton, we say thanks.
