Abandoned Dogs Found In Bloomfield With Heartbreaking Note

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — “I can’t take care of them while living on the street.” This was the heartbreaking note left with two abandoned dogs at an animal shelter in North Jersey, staff reported.

According to the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, staff arrived at the facility on Monday to find two senior dogs tied to the fence.

A note left by their owner explained more about why they were abandoned, the shelter said:

“Hi. I am sorry, but my babies deserve to live their golden years happy and in a good warm home for the winter. I can’t take care of them while living on the street. Our home was foreclosed on putting us out in the street. Please take care of them and don't kill them.”

The dogs are both in good health – just hungry, the note continued:

“Hi, we are Shadow (black baby) and Tiger (brown brindle baby) and we are littermate brothers. We were born in 2009. We have a birthday coming up around October 12. We will be 15-years-old! We are pedigree Presa Canario. We are not aggressive. We don't fight. We get along with other dogs and some cats. We last had our shots in the summer of 2023. We know basic commands. We are in good health besides needing to eat more. We love people, we love kids. Please keep us together if you can. Thank you.”

Both dogs are microchipped but unregistered, staff noted. People can contact the shelter at 973-748-0194 if they can provide help or information.

The latest case is a tough pill to swallow, staff said – especially because the shelter has been in desperate need of more space.

“While we feel terrible for the circumstances, this is an unacceptable way to turn your pets into the shelter, especially when there are no open cages,” staff wrote.
