BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield Animal Shelter is temporarily putting the brakes on accepting surrendered cats and large breed dogs.
The shelter has been one of many across New Jersey that has struggled with rising intake numbers and space issues in the past few years. Staff put out a renewed call for adopters and fosters on Monday.

“The shelter is unable to accept surrendered cats and large breed dogs until further notice. For that to happen, our current available dogs and cats need homes. Our top priority is adoption. Please help our current dogs and cats find Furever Homes by applying through [this link].”
Shelter staff added:
“We are also seeking foster homes for a variety of cats with the following issues: hyperthyroidism, diabetes, FIV+, undersocialized. Fosters must be familiar and comfortable administering medication, socializing, etc. To foster, please email BAS@bloomfieldnjpd.com”
