Bloomfield Animal Shelter Needs Foster Homes For Dogs, Cats

Got space in your home (and life) for a temporary furry friend? Here's how you can help out the Bloomfield Animal Shelter.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Got space in your home for a furry friend? The Bloomfield Animal Shelter has launched a volunteer foster program – and staff are seeking temporary homes for some adorable dogs and cats in need.

The shelter – which has been struggling with space issues this year – posted the following announcement on Thursday:

“We are officially ready to launch our new Volunteer Foster Program! As a small shelter, we've been lucky to only need fosters on an as-needed basis, however, times are changing and our intakes are rising year by year, leaving us scrambling to find other accommodations! We are currently looking for foster homes for various situations: litters of kittens, long-term dogs, cats requiring medication, shy/scared cats in need of socializing, etc. Supplies provided.”

“If you're interested in fostering for minimum 1 to 2 months, please contact our foster coordinator at fosterforbas@gmail.com. Once a foster application is submitted and approved, our foster coordinator and staff will select the appropriate animal(s) in need.”

Some typical responsibilities of a foster home include:

  • Socializing dogs/cats
  • Cleaning and feeding
  • Walking and exercising
  • Giving medication
  • Transporting to appointments, events
