Bloomfield Animal Shelter: 'This Is What Kennel Stress Looks Like'

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Want to know what “kennel stress” looks like? Just take a glance at AJ, a cat available for adoption at the Bloomfield Animal Shelter.

The shelter shared the following post on social media Wednesday, including a video:

“Please help AJ! This is what kennel stress looks like! Kennel stress can affect cats too! This is how AJ spends the majority of his days - pacing back and forth, waiting for his time to exercise and play outside of his cage. He’s been waiting in a cage since September! It’s no surprise that while his behavior improved, he still likes to surprise us with a love ‘nip’ every now and then!”

The shelter continued:

“He’s a young boy at just 2-3 years old and should experience life in a home. He gets along better with younger cats, and still tries to slap the adult cats, but backs down easily once put in his place. He is VERY food motivated and easy to distract if tensions arise. He has made tremendous improvements in his behavior and should do well with an experienced spicy cat owner who understands a slow approach. If you’re a cat savvy person, with or without other cats, please consider giving AJ a home!”
