Bloomfield Braces For Stormy Weather, NJ Declares State Of Emergency

Here's what weather forecasters are predicting for Bloomfield this weekend.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A “state of emergency” has been declared in New Jersey ahead of an autumn storm, with rain expected to fall in Bloomfield throughout the weekend.

Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way said all of New Jersey’s 21 counties will be put into a state of emergency beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday. It will remain in effect until the emergency passes.

Weather forecasters are predicting several inches of heavy rain and 60 mph winds in some parts of the state. The storm is expected to wallop coastal areas the hardest.

“I urge all New Jerseyans to exercise caution, monitor local weather forecasts and warnings, stay informed on evacuation protocols, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary,” the acting governor said.

LOCAL FORECAST FOR BLOOMFIELD

Here’s the local forecast for the Bloomfield area, according to the National Weather Service:

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 52. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of rain, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. Light and variable wind becoming east 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Saturday Night: Rain likely, mainly after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. East wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 63. Breezy, with a northeast wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Sunday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 54. Breezy, with a northeast wind 18 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday: Rain. Steady temperature around 57. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Rain before 8pm, then showers likely, mainly between 8pm and 2am. Low around 53. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 68.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 60.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 45.

PSE&G said it is ready to respond to heavy rains and increased winds expected to impact its service area this weekend.

Starting Sunday afternoon, the weather system could bring hazardous wind gusts – enough to potentially topple trees, bring down branches on wires and cause outages, the utility company said.
