Bloomfield Ex-Con Sentenced To 6 Years For Weapons Offenses: Feds

A Bloomfield man and former convict was sentenced for possessing multiple drugs with intent to distribute and several illegal firearms.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - A Bloomfield man and former convict was sentenced Friday for possessing multiple drugs with intent to distribute and several illegal firearms, including an AM-15 rifle, federal officials said.

Cedric Lewis, 32, of Bloomfield, was sentenced to six years in prison for possessing quantities of heroin and cocaine, as well as the weapons offenses, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said.

Lewis previously pleaded guilty in July to two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and two counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.

In addition to the prison term, Lewis was sentenced to three years of supervised release.

According to court documents filed in the case, investigators learned that Lewis was in a car in September 2020 in the Newark/Elizabeth area while he possessed heroin and cocaine he intended to sell, as well as an AM-15 rifle with a high-capacity magazine that contained 30 rounds of .300 caliber ammunition.

Following a search of Lewis’ apartment, officers recovered a 9 millimeter pistol with an extended magazine; a .40 caliber pistol with an extended magazine; drug paraphernalia and a scale; $800 in cash, and heroin and cocaine that Lewis intended to sell, court documents said.
