The Township of Bloomfield is proud to announce the launch of the Hometown Hero Banner Project, a new initiative that pays public tribute to Bloomfield residents who have served, or are currently serving, in the United States Armed Forces.
The Hometown Hero Banner Project invites community members to sponsor personalized, full-color, double-sided street banners (23 inches by 46 inches) that prominently feature the name, photograph, and military branch of their honoree. Banners will be installed along 64 designated light poles on Broad Street, spanning from Hoover Avenue to Liberty Street, creating a highly visible and heartfelt tribute to the service and sacrifice of Bloomfield’s veterans.

Eligibility for the program includes veterans who currently reside in Bloomfield or who lived in the Township at the time of their service.
“Our veterans have given so much in service to our country, and this project is one way we can show them that their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” said Mayor Jenny Mundell. “These banners are daily reminders to everyone in Bloomfield of the courage, dedication, and hometown pride that our service members represent. It’s an honor to celebrate them in the streets where they once walked, lived, and called home.”

The first round of banners is scheduled to be installed around October 1st and will remain on display through Veterans Day, November 11.
“This project is a powerful way to bring our community together and publicly recognize the courage and sacrifice of our veterans,” said Michael Sceurman, Director of Bloomfield Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs. “Every banner represents a personal story of service and dedication, and we are proud to help ensure those stories are honored and remembered in the heart of Bloomfield. We’re grateful to the BPRCA Veterans Subcommittee for helping us bring this project to life.”
In addition to honoring individual service members, the project also supports the beautification of Bloomfield’s central avenues, strengthens civic pride and community spirit, and encourages foot traffic that supports local businesses.
Residents are encouraged to apply to sponsor a banner in recognition of a veteran loved one. Full program details and application forms, available in both English and Spanish, can be found by visiting https://tinyurl.com/BloomfieldHeroes. Applications for the first installation are due by September 5, and will be accepted on a rolling basis for the next round.
