Bloomfield Is Ready For Storm Amid NJ State Of Emergency, Mayor Says (UPDATED)
Bloomfield is battening down the hatches due to a severe weather forecast. Here's where to park if you live in a low-lying area.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield is battening down the hatches due to a severe weather forecast, officials announced Thursday.
A state of emergency has been declared in New Jersey ahead of strong storms that may cause flash flooding. Rainfall totals of one to three inches are generally expected, with localized amounts of five to seven inches possible. The state of emergency went into effect at 2 p.m.

Mayor Jenny Mundell said the town is prepared for bad weather, and has made arrangements for residents to park cars in alternate locations as needed (learn more below).

“Township of Bloomfield Public Works and Park Maintenance has been proactively preparing storm drains, and the Bloomfield Police Department and Bloomfield Fire Department are ready to respond in emergent situations,” the mayor added.
Mundell also said she has been in touch with the governor’s office, which is ready to support the town if needed.
PARKING
According to a message from the Township of Bloomfield, alternate side street parking is suspended for Thursday due to the potential for heavy rain and flooding.
All residents living in low-lying areas can move their vehicles to designated school parking lot locations for now (see list below). Watsessing School at 71 Prospect Street can’t be used due to flooding in that area, officials said.
All vehicles must be removed from the lots by 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.
