Bloomfield School Superintendent Is Retiring After Decades In District

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield School Superintendent Salvatore Goncalves is retiring after more than 50 years working in the district.

The Bloomfield Public School District shared the following message from Goncalves earlier this week:

Dear Students/Parents and Esteemed Community Members,

Please accept this letter as a heartfelt message of gratitude and an announcement of my retirement as Superintendent of Schools, effective June 30, 2026. After more than 50 years of dedicated service to our incredible school district, the time has come for me to begin a new chapter.

Serving this community has been the profound privilege of my lifetime. Over the past five decades, I have had the honor of watching generations of your children grow, learn, and become remarkable young adults. Your trust in our schools and your unwavering support for our teachers and staff have been the foundation of every success we have celebrated.

From school board meetings to Friday night football games, from school concerts to science fairs, I have seen firsthand the deep commitment this community has to its children. Your partnership has been our greatest strength, helping us build a system that is not only focused on academic excellence but also on fostering curiosity, creativity, and character. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together.

I am confident that the strong foundation we've built will continue to thrive, and I will be working closely with the Board of Education to ensure a smooth transition. I am certain that the future is bright for our students and for this wonderful community. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your support, your partnership, and the countless memories. It has been an honor to serve you and your families. I will always carry the spirit of this district with me.
