Bloomfield previously inked a six-month agreement with Maplewood – as well as its neighbor, South Orange – after the St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center announced it would cease providing animal control services to 19 municipalities in the New Jersey area at the end of 2022.
As part of that deal, Bloomfield agreed to provide Maplewood with animal control services for “animal bites, sick or injured animals, potentially rabid animals, dogs running at large, and other urgent situations.”
