Car Theft Attempt In Bloomfield Foiled; Other Thefts Successful: PD

An attempt to steal a car at a gas station in Bloomfield was foiled last week, authorities said. Other vehicle owners weren't so lucky.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — An attempt to steal a car at a gas station in Bloomfield was recently foiled, authorities announced Friday.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about the attempted motor vehicle theft, which took place on May 1:

“Officers responded to 425 Bloomfield Avenue (Bloomfield BMW) after getting a report about an attempted motor vehicle theft. The complainant was fueling up a customer’s BMW at the Fuel 4 Gas station at 461 Bloomfield Avenue, when he noticed a male exit a silver Ford Mustang and attempt to take the BMW. The complainant prevented the male from taking the vehicle and the male entered the passenger side of the Mustang and fled the area. This incident is under investigation.”

Other vehicle owners weren’t so lucky last week, authorities said.

Bloomfield police released the following details about three recent car thefts that took place in the township:

May 1 – “Officers responded to 154 Bloomfield Avenue (Elite Auto Trend) after getting a report about a motor vehicle theft. The complainant parked his vehicle on the street and went into the business for approximately 10 minutes. When he returned to his vehicle, it was missing. The key fob was left inside the vehicle. The vehicle, a black 2021 BMW X6M, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

May 5 – “Officers responded to the area of Arlington Avenue after getting a report about a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked his vehicle on the street overnight and when he returned to it the following morning, it was missing. The vehicle, a white 2021 Hyundai Kona, was entered in as stolen.”

May 5 – “Officers responded to the 300-block of Ampere Parkway after getting a report about a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked his vehicle in his driveway overnight and when he returned to it the following morning, it was missing. The vehicle, a black 2020 BMW X7, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”
