BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Anniversaries aren’t always good things. And that’s exactly what rescuers in Bloomfield are trying to avoid for Vera, a cat that has spent nearly a year at a local animal shelter.
Staff at the shelter gave more details about Vera – and why she deserves a happy home – in a social media post earlier this week:

“August 17 is an anniversary date we do NOT want to celebrate for Vera. That’s the date she was found LAST YEAR – August 17, 2021 – abandoned with hyperthyroidism, just a week after being adopted from another shelter. She was found thin, unmedicated, and sick. Little did she know, the best was yet to come health-wise, but not home-wise.”
Since then, the feline has spent day after day seeking an adopter – to no avail.
“Vera has been through so much this past year, and deserves a home of her own,” staff wrote. “Please help her find her Furever Home before the anniversary of her entering the shelter.”

MORE ABOUT VERA
According to the Bloomfield Animal Shelter:
“Thanks to SOBAS 501c3 - Supporters of Bloomfield Animal Shelter and your donations, Vera has been treated of hyperthyroidism with Iodine-131 Therapy and does not require any medication! She is such an easy cat that would be perfect for anyone with a busy schedule, as she will likely keep her distance until she settles in. Vera is now about 11-years-old and is a creature of habit who enjoys her feeding time, catnip time, nap time, and spends the rest of her time observing from a distance. She doesn’t mind other cats, as long as they aren’t overbearing. Her future owner will give her space and won’t be overly touchy feely, and understand she will likely need time to decompress to settle into her home after spending the last year in the shelter, and before that – we aren’t sure.”
