Dog Found Tied To Pole In Bloomfield: ‘She Needs A Better Home’
"She's a good girl and very loving," the note read. "I'm so sorry."

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — “She needs a better home.” So read the note left beside a dog tied to a pole in Essex County, according to the Bloomfield Animal Shelter.
On Thursday, the shelter put out a call for potential adopters for Maya, a pooch found tied to a pole with a letter from her former owners. It read: “She needs a better home … please help her. She’s a good girl and very loving. I’m so sorry.”
According to the shelter:

“Her microchip allowed us to contact her original owner, who claimed to give her away last year, but couldn’t remember to who. IF this is true, this poor girl has been through a few homes in her short life. Despite being dealt a bad hand of owners, she is friendly, playful, and holds no animosity towards humans.”
The shelter said Maya is almost 2-years-old and is now fully vetted. She has a thin build, a shorter coat and two different-colored eyes.
“She loves to play and loves everyone she meets,” shelter staff said.

She doesn’t seem to mind the other pooches, but “meet and greets” with any other dogs will be required before adoption, the shelter said.

Some people criticized the dog’s former owner on social media.
“A dog/cat, whatever animal you choose to get is for life!” one person wrote. “These babies deserve so much better.”
But another commenter said there might be more to the eye about the situation and called for empathy.
“Maybe we can stop passing judgment on folks who are in terrible circumstances and have to make terrible decisions,” they wrote. “Could this [have] been done better? Sure. Do we need to call these people names? Absolutely not.”
