The Bloomfield Department of Health and Human Services (BDHHS) recently announced the launch of its Green and Healthy Homes Initiative. The educational program is designed to promote and create healthy, safe and hazard free homes within the township.

“In Bloomfield we are hard at work to make this a more sustainable and environmentally friendly community,” Mayor Michael Venezia said. “I encourage residents to take advantage of this outstanding, free program that BDHHS staff are working on so that they know about potential hazards in their homes.”

BDHHS staff members that have completed a two-day Green and Healthy Homes training course will conduct a detailed visual assessment of homes and inform owners and renters of potential health hazards. The visual assessment will include issues such as moisture intrusion, pests, air quality and paint deterioration.

After the visit, participants will receive a free Green and Healthy Homes cleaning kit that includes new cleaning products and “how-to’s” for green cleaning their homes. The visual report will come with an action plan completed during the home visit to assist with identifying potential home hazards and ways to mitigate them.
