BLOOMFIELD, NJ — When Kira first arrived at the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, the husky was “friendly and outgoing.” But now, the poor pooch seems to be terrified of shelter life, retreating to her cage and causing staff to put out a renewed call for a potential adopter.

The shelter recently posted the following message about Kira, pleading for a special adopter, foster or rescue group to stand up and answer the call (read her full adoption profile here):

“You may have noticed that we haven’t posted Kira much lately. No, she didn’t get adopted, instead, she digressed over the last few weeks. Kira, 1-year-old, came to us friendly and outgoing, and unfortunately has been not doing well lately. She seems to be terrified in the shelter and only prefers being in her cage. We’ve been making small progress this last week or so, with her allowing us to take her outside for short walks before she pulls to go back inside. It’s pretty tough to adopt out a dog that doesn’t like to come out of the cage to meet people. We’re hoping her new medication regimen helps her relax and become more social. Until then, we give her the space she prefers, and accept all baby steps with her. We won’t give up on her!”

According to her profile on Petfinder, Kira is an adult female husky who is house-trained, spayed and up-to-date with her vaccinations. She was found as a stray and never reclaimed. She is apparently okay with other dogs, but the shelter is unsure of her reaction to cats. An experienced owner is preferred.
