Man Arrested After Argument Outside Home Depot In Bloomfield: Police

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested a Newark resident last week after a gun was spotted during an argument in the parking lot of a Home Depot, authorities said.

Police responded to the Home Depot at 60 Orange Street on Wednesday after getting a call about a person with a gun.

The store’s security guard said they saw a group of people arguing outside in the parking lot. During the dispute, one person allegedly removed an object that appeared to be a handgun from a parked vehicle, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the man – later identified as Jason Agyemang, 41 – inside the store.

Police questioned Agyemang, who admitted he was carrying a firearm without a permit: a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver. Officers also found a set of brass knuckles during a consensual search of the vehicle, police said.

Agyemang was arrested and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark. He was charged with possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to have weapons, and making terroristic threats, police said.
