Stolen Car Crashes In Essex County After Chase, 4 Arrested: Police

A car chase that crossed from Bloomfield to East Orange involved a stolen vehicle – which was used in a robbery in Belleville, police said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested four people this week after a car chase involving a stolen vehicle crossed into East Orange and ended with a crash. The vehicle was allegedly involved in an armed robbery that took place in Belleville, authorities said.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about the incident:

“On Jan. 29 at approximately 11:45 a.m., Bloomfield police units were advised by Belleville police that a vehicle was involved in an armed robbery in their jurisdiction. The robbery involved a United States Postal Service vehicle and the suspect vehicle had been stolen out of our jurisdiction on Jan. 25. Bloomfield detectives observed the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in Bloomfield. The detectives initiated a motor vehicle pursuit and continued pursuing into the City of East Orange.”

“While in East Orange, the suspect vehicle made contact with two civilian vehicles. No one was injured in the collision. After the vehicle became disabled the occupants attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended.”

Police arrested Tarik Dunbar, 23, of Newark; Shakir Tinney, 22, of North Greensboro, North Carolina; Conna Richburg, 19, of East Orange; and Jaylissa Varnor, 19, of Orange.

All four suspects were charged with resisting by flight (4th degree) and receiving stolen property (3rd degree). Richburg and Conna were additionally charged with eluding (2nd degree).

The Bloomfield Police Department is coordinating investigative efforts with the other jurisdictions and United States postal inspectors, authorities said.
