Vehicle Crimes In Bloomfield: Stolen Motorcycle, Thefts, USB Device

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A woman went to pick her daughter up from daycare and came back to find her car missing. A device that reprograms key fobs was found next to a shattered car window. A man let someone take his motorcycle for a “test ride” – and they never came back. These are some of the vehicle crimes recently reported in Bloomfield, police say.

On Friday, the Bloomfield Police Department released details about five recent vehicle crimes that took place in the township. They included:

Aug. 5 – “Officers responded to 215 Berkeley Avenue on report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. The complainant left her vehicle running and unlocked while she went to pick up her daughter from daycare. When she returned, the vehicle was missing. The vehicle, a white 2018 Mercedes E300, was entered as stolen.”

Aug. 7 – “Officers responded to the area of Chester Avenue on report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. The complainant parked his friend’s pickup truck on the street overnight and when he returned, it was missing. The vehicle, a blue 2001 Ford F250, was entered as stolen.”

Aug. 9 – “Officers responded to the 100 block of North 17th Street on report of an Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft. A resident noticed that the window on his vehicle was shattered and after further inspection he observed a device plugged into his USB port and an unknown key fob on the ground. It was later determined that the device plugged into his vehicle is a key fob reprogramming device. This incident is under investigation.”

Aug. 10 – “Officers responded to 45 Franklin Street (Core’s Tavern) on report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. A resident was inside of the bar when an unknown male entered and asked him if he was selling his motorcycle and if he could take it for a test ride. The complainant allowed the male to take the motorcycle for a test ride and the male never returned. The motorcycle, a black 2015 TRU TRX, was entered as stolen. This incident was under investigation.”

Aug. 10 – “Officers responded to the area of Farrand Street on report of an Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft. A resident parked his vehicle in the parking garage on Aug. 8 and when he returned on Aug. 10, he noticed the driver’s side rear window shattered and damage to the steering column. There was also a USB cord plugged in that did not belong to the resident. This incident is under investigation.”
