BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A wave of car thefts was recently reported in Bloomfield, with several drivers leaving their vehicles running and unlocked, authorities say.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about several motor vehicle thefts that took place in the township:

Dec. 16 – “Officers responded to the 100-block of Willard Avenue on report of a motor vehicle theft. A resident left her vehicle running and unlocked in the driveway while she went back inside to retrieve an item. When she returned, the vehicle was missing. The vehicle, a grey 2016 Mercedes GLC, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

Dec. 16 – “A resident responded to Bloomfield police headquarters to report a motor vehicle theft from the area of Conger Street. According to surveillance footage, two males drove into the parking lot and one of the males entered the complainant’s vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle, a silver 2002 Honda Accord was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

Dec. 17 – “Officers responded to the area of Dodd Street on report of a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked her vehicle on the street overnight and when she returned the following morning, it was missing. The passenger side window was broken off and left on the sidewalk. The vehicle, a gray 2019 Hyundai Elantra, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

Dec. 21 – “Officers responded to 250 Glenwood Avenue (CVS) on report of a motor vehicle theft. The complainant left his vehicle running and unlocked while he went into CVS. When he returned, the vehicle was missing. The vehicle, a black 2014 Chevrolet Impala, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

Dec. 22 – “Officers responded to the area of Montgomery Street on report of a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked her vehicle on the street overnight and when she returned the following morning, it was missing. There was broken glass observed on the sidewalk where the vehicle was parked. The vehicle, a black 2019 Kia Forte, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

Dec. 23 – “Officers responded to the area of Dodd Street on report of a motor vehicle theft. The complainant left his vehicle running and unlocked to warm up. When he returned, the vehicle was missing. The vehicle, a red 2019 Mitsubishi ECL, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

Dec. 27 – “Officers responded to the area of Lawrence Street on report of a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked her vehicle in front of her residence overnight and when she returned the following morning, it was missing. The vehicle, a silver 2019 Kia Optima, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation.”
