West Caldwell residents Dina and Frank Sciacca have made a sponsor level donation to Friends of Caldwell Softball to be used toward construction of new softball dugouts at the James Caldwell High School varsity field. The field is used by approximately 300 girls each year, including those in the T-ball, recreation, travel and high school softball programs.
The Sciaccas both grew up in Caldwell-West Caldwell, met at James Caldwell High School and decided to raise their family here. Their son Sebastian is a 5th grader at Washington Elementary School. Francesca is an 8th grader at Grover Cleveland Middle School. And, Alexandra is a senior at JCHS.
It is Alexandra’s involvement in Caldwell’s softball programs since kindergarten that inspired the donation. "We truly enjoy watching our daughter play and wanted to give back to our community”, said Dina Sciacca. “She loves the sport.”

Alexandra is a right fielder on the JCHS Varsity team. In her sophomore year, the Chiefs won the State Conference Championship. The following year, the Chiefs were Sectional champs. She has played summer and fall ball throughout the years and has won several MVP awards as an infielder on a club travel team. The slap hitter is known for her speed and her ability to run the bases as well as her perseverance in the field and at bat.
The dugout project is out to bid now thanks to the generosity of local families, like the Sciaccas, as well as local businesses and civic organizations who have come together to fill a need in our community.
