Caldwell Braces For Stormy Weather, NJ Declares State Of Emergency

CALDWELLS, NJ — A “state of emergency” has been declared in New Jersey ahead of an autumn storm, with rain expected to fall in the Caldwells throughout the weekend.

Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way said all of New Jersey’s 21 counties will be put into a state of emergency beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday. It will remain in effect until the emergency passes.

Weather forecasters are predicting several inches of heavy rain and 60 mph winds in some parts of the state. The storm is expected to wallop coastal areas the hardest.

“I urge all New Jerseyans to exercise caution, monitor local weather forecasts and warnings, stay informed on evacuation protocols, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary,” the acting governor said.

LOCAL FORECAST FOR THE CALDWELLS

Here’s the local forecast for the Caldwell area, according to the National Weather Service:

Friday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 49. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of rain, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the morning.

Saturday Night: Rain likely, mainly after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. East wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 62. Northeast wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 52. Northeast wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 58. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 46.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 43.

PSE&G said it is ready to respond to heavy rains and increased winds expected to impact its service area this weekend.

Starting Sunday afternoon, the weather system could bring hazardous wind gusts – enough to potentially topple trees, bring down branches on wires and cause outages, the utility company said.
