Caldwell College Softball Catcher Makes All-American 2nd Team

Alyssa Calderon becomes the seventh softball player to receive All-American honors in the history of Caldwell College.

A sophomore on Caldwell College's softball team received national honors for her accomplishments this season. 

Alyssa Calderon, of Fontana, Calf., was recently selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-American second team. She becomes the seventh softball player to receive All-American honors in the history of Caldwell College. 

Calderon also made the NFCA and Daktronics all-East Region first teams, as well as the all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference first team. The team’s leader in home runs and runs batted in, she was named the CACC Player of the Year after batting .370 with 36 runs, 16 doubles, eight homers and 40 RBI.

Calderon finished the season ranked second in the CACC in home runs, fourth in total bases (109) and doubles, fifth in RBI and sixth in slugging percentage (.602). Her home run on May 12 also helped the Caldwell College Cougars defeat Southern Connecticut State 3-2 in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.

Also an excellent student, Calderon was chosen to the Capital One Academic All-District 1 Team and was selected an Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar. 

The Cougars went 45-12 this season under coach Dean Johnson, won the CACC Tournament this year and advanced to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament for the sixth consecutive season and the ninth time in the past 10 years.
