Essex County Accountants Offer Tips For Hurricane Ida Recovery
A "Disaster Recovery Guide" has info about how to catalog damage, contact insurance agencies and replace important documents.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Are you one of the many homeowners or businesses left reeling from Hurricane Ida?
On Tuesday, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) released a “Disaster Recovery Guide” in the wake of last week’s devastating storm and flooding. See the full guide here.
The NJCPA offers tips on how to replace personal identification cards, document damage and losses for insurance claims, avoid disaster-related fraud and amend tax returns. The guide also lists state and federal agency contacts, as well as contact information for most major insurance agencies servicing New Jersey.

Lose important documents to flood waters? The guide also explains the necessary steps to take regarding replacement documentation for autos, homes, mortgages or proof of marriage.
“Knowing where to turn to replace damaged or lost information in a disaster can mean a world of difference,” NJCPA Executive Director Ralph Albert Thomas said.
