My Favorite American President, Grover Cleveland

Come to the Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association for the annual meeting and talk by Lawrence W. Reed, President of the Foundation for Economic Excellence, headquartered in Irvington-on-Hudson, NY.

Caldwell native Grover Cleveland’s three year meteoric rise from Mayor of Buffalo to NY Governor to President of the United States resulted in a short resume when he arrived at the White House, but Mr. Reed is impressed that Cleveland had animmense reservoir of the most important credential of all—character. Reed will discuss how Cleveland’s character served him and the nation extremely well because it led him to almost all the right actions and policy conclusions. Whether it was the important matters of the nation’s monetary system or foreign affairs, Cleveland drew from the qualities of his sterling character to become a highly-respected leader and one of our nation’s best chief executives.

Americans in the 1880s and 1890s experienced the emergence of their country from the shadow of Civil War and the development of its role as industrial giantdespite major controversies along the way. Economic problems were vexing issues that President Grover Cleveland dealt within those years. He had to fight entrenched interests and a great many fallacies and misconceptions but history shows that when crunch time came, he knew what the right answers were. Mr. Reed has lectured on Grover Cleveland in at least half the 50 states and to audiences, estimates totaling more than 10,000 over the years.
