Fire Hydrant Flushing In West Caldwell Expected To Last 5 Weeks

"Residents are urged to check that their water is running clear before starting any laundry during this time."

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — Fall hydrant flushing kicked off in West Caldwell earlier this week and will continue for more than a month, officials say.

West Caldwell town officials recently announced that the Fall Hydrant Flushing Program will begin on Monday, Sept. 8 on Mountain Avenue at the northern end of the township, and will proceed to the southern end of town at Beechtree Road.

The program will require about five weeks to complete, and will be carried out during weeknights between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight, officials said.

According to a municipal advisory, flushing is part of regular water system maintenance. It provides an opportunity to test the township’s fire hydrants and removes accumulated sediment from water mains.

“Residents are urged to check that their water is running clear before starting any laundry during this time,” the borough’s advisory says. “If there are any questions about the program, please contact the Township Water Department at 973-226-2300, ext. 3400.”
