Flooding Closes Major Road In The Caldwells, State Of Emergency Lingers

CALDWELLS, NJ — Flooding was reported in the Caldwells on Thursday, closing down at least one major roadway in the area.

A state of emergency has been declared in New Jersey ahead of strong storms that may cause flash flooding. Rainfall totals of one to three inches are generally expected, with localized amounts of five to seven inches possible. The state of emergency went into effect at 2 p.m.

The West Caldwell Police Department reported that Passaic Avenue was closed between Bloomfield Avenue and Park Street due to flooding.

“West Caldwell roadways are experiencing flooding due to inclement weather conditions,” police said. “Only travel if necessary.”

A Gazebo concert in West Caldwell that was scheduled for Thursday night has been canceled.

Nearby in North Caldwell, borough officials shared a flash flood warning from the National Weather Service.

“Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads,” the advisory states. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
