GOP Council Sweep, School Referendum Defeated: 2025 Election Results In The Caldwells
Election results have been certified in Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell. Here are the final tallies.
CALDWELLS, NJ — Republicans narrowly swept two council races and voters turned down a local school construction proposal in the Caldwells, official election results show.
A highly watched governor race brought many residents of Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell to the polls on Nov. 4. But there were plenty of other choices for voters to make in the 2025 general election.
With 100 percent of districts reported and the results certified as of Wednesday, here are the final tallies, according to the Essex County Clerk's Office:

CALDWELL
Caldwell residents cast ballots for two open seats on the borough council. Terms last for three years. The candidates were: Kris Brown (Republican), Darren Daniolowicz (Republican), Jonathan Sagalow (Democrat), and Gerald S. Cardillo (Democrat).

Brown and Daniolowicz have captured seats on the council after a close race. Here are the certified results from the Essex County Clerk’s Office:
- Kris Brown – 1,785 votes (26.34%)
- Darren Daniolowicz – 1,738 votes (25.65%)
- Jonathan Sagalow – 1,634 votes (24.11%)
- Gerald S. Cardillo – 1,620 votes (23.9%)
NORTH CALDWELL
North Caldwell residents cast ballots for two open seats on the borough council. Terms last for three years. The candidates were: Arthur Rees (Republican), Suzanne Corbo (Republican), Stephen Weinstein (Democrat), and Stephen Papageorge (Democrat).
Rees and Corbo have captured seats on the council after a close race. Here are the certified results from the Essex County Clerk’s Office:
- Arthur Rees – 1,858 votes (26.17%)
- Suzanne Corbo – 1,830 votes (25.77%)
- Stephen Weinstein – 1,726 votes (24.31%)
- Stephen Papageorge – 1,687 votes (23.76%)
North Caldwell residents also voted for two uncontested school board races.
Two seats were available on the West Essex Regional Board of Education. Terms last for three years. The candidates were Philippe E. Andre and Debra Holinstat.
One seat was available on the North Caldwell Board of Education. The term lasts for three years. The only candidate appearing on the ballot was Eric J. Finkelstein.
WEST CALDWELL
West Caldwell residents cast ballots for two open seats on the township council. Terms last for three years. The Republican candidates both ran unopposed: Joseph P. Cecere and Stephen P. Wolsky. No Democrats filed to run.
CALDWELL-WEST CALDWELL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Voters in Caldwell and West Caldwell were asked to cast ballots for a school board race and a public referendum.
Two seats were available on the Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education. Terms last for three years. Each candidate ran unopposed: Terri DiMartini Greenlee and Danielle Mack.
Residents in the Caldwell-West Caldwell Public School District were also asked to vote “yes” or “no” on a public question that would have funded the construction of a new athletic center at James Caldwell High School. The proposal was defeated.
Here are the certified results from the Essex County Clerk’s Office:
- YES – 3,163 votes (45.39%)
- NO – 3,806 votes (54.61%)
