James Caldwell High School Students to Perform "The Game's Afoot"

James Caldwell High School students will travel back to 1936 this weekend by performing “The Game’s Afoot”, a murder mystery spoof of the life and times of the great America actor, playwright and stage-manager William Gillette, best remembered for portraying Sherlock Holmes on stage.

The play is set in the living room of the mansion of Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes. Gillette has invited his fellow cast-members to his castle for a weekend of revelry, but when one of the guests is murdered, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous.

To track down the killer, Gillette assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes. “The Game’s Afoot” won the 2012 Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allen Poe Award for best play.

The JCHS play features several of the school’s seasoned actors, along with a few newcomers to the school’s drama team, including Dante Savanello as Gillette, Emily Alworth as Martha Gillette, Nicky Barone as Felix Geisel, Regina Peters as Madge Geisel, Kyle Elphick as Simon Bright, Noelle Gizzi as Aggie Wheeler, Anna Rizzotti as Daria Chase, and Abby Lebet as Inspector Goring. Understudy Erica Blanco and Ushers/Character Audience Members Noelle Spitz, Dana Shikhelbasatna and Franki Salluce round out the cast.

The play runs Friday and Saturday Oct. 24 and 25, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m., at the JCHS Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
