“Flushing water mains involve the systematic opening of fire hydrants and allowing them to flow for several minutes. Residents may experience a slight discoloration of their water following flushing. If this occurs, it is suggested that residents run their water until it clears. The discoloration is temporary and presents no ill health effect, but may stain laundry. Residents are therefore advised to be sure water is clear before washing clothes.”
