Seniors In The Caldwells Earn Prizes In County Art Contest
Nearly three dozen seniors captured prizes as part of the 2023 Essex County Senior Art Show, including several residents of the Caldwells.

CALDWELLS, NJ — Nearly three dozen seniors captured prizes as part of the 2023 Essex County Senior Art Show, including several residents of the Caldwells.
In all, 32 Essex County creators earned awards in the annual juried art show. It was open to all professional and non-professional artists ages 60 and older. Artwork was judged on “originality, composition, style, quality and creativity.”
In Caldwell, the winners included:

- Connie Antonio won second place in the non-professional drawing category for “Cool Dude.”
- Randy Keenan received an honorable mention in the professional mixed media category for “Thirteen Moons.”
In West Caldwell, the winners included:
- Carol Chesler won first place in the non-professional sculpture category for “Untitled.”
- Christine Mayer Elvin won first place in the professional oil category for “Passaic River.”
- Margie Samuels won first place in the professional acrylic category for “On the Water.”
“I congratulate the winners and all the artists who participated in this year’s Senior Art Show,” Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. said.

“The talent displayed by our senior artists is truly amazing and the artwork is inspiring,” DiVincenzo continued. “Essex County has a thriving fine arts community, and our Senior Art Show enables our older residents – both professionals and non-professionals – to display their original creations where the public can see them.”
“This is an excellent event for us to promote the arts and inspire our residents to use their talents,” he added.
