Holiday Concert Friday

To celebrate the holidays, the West Caldwell Public Library, 30 Clinton Road, will presentĀ Ode to the Holidays,Ā a concert of holiday music and poetry, onĀ FridayĀ at 1 p.m.Ā in the Community Room.

Award-winning pianist Paul Conrad and soloists Alicia Grey (soprano) and Luke Ostrow (tenor) from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University will perform such popular carols asĀ "Ave Maria," "O Holy Night," "In the Bleak Midwinter," "The Christmas Song"Ā andĀ "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."Ā 

Holiday poems by such prominent poets as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Elizabeth Coatsworth, and Robert Frost will also be read by local award-winning poet Sandra Duguid and Librarian Ethan Galvin.Ā

Caldwell College Open House

Caldwell College will host a freeĀ information session for itsĀ adult undergraduate and graduate schools at 10 a.m. on Friday.Ā 

Meet and discuss your program of choice with a program coordinator in an informal atmosphere, learnĀ more about Caldwell College's admission and program requirements and more.Ā Application fees areĀ waived for attendees.Ā

Anti-Gun VigilĀ Saturday

An anti-gun vigil will be held in the Caldwells on Saturday to mark the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting.Ā 

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America NJ will host a memorial event on Saturday atĀ 9:15 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, at 326 Bloomfield Ave. in Caldwell.Ā 

The vigil,Ā called ā€œNo More Silence,ā€ is intended toĀ send a clear message that it’s time to make noise about gun reform, said the group in a press release.Ā 

Moms Demand ActionĀ will honor the Newtown, Conn.,Ā victims and all victims of gun violence through bell ringing in lieu of a moment of silence.

9 Lesson And Carols SaturdayĀ 

Saint Peter’s Episcopal ChurchĀ will present a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols onĀ Saturday, Dec. 14, at 5p.m. in the sanctuary, atĀ 271 Roseland Ave. inĀ Essex Fells.

Readings from nine lessons from scripture are interspersed with appropriate carols and hymns led by the Saint Peter’s combined choirs and bell choir.

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is suited to families with children as well as adults. All are welcome regardless of religious faith. A reception will follow.Ā Ā
