Grocer Honored With Street Sign Unveiling Near New Supermarket In The Caldwells
An entry road to a new supermarket in the Caldwells now bears a street sign in honor of Irving Gladstein, founder of Sunrise ShopRite.
WEST CALDWELL, NJ — An entry road to a new supermarket in the Caldwells now bears a street sign in honor of Irving Gladstein, founder of Sunrise ShopRite.
The team at the ShopRite of West Caldwell recently joined Mayor Joseph Tempesta Jr. and other town officials to unveil a new street sign in tribute to Gladstein.
Irving Place, an entrance road to the newly opened ShopRite of West Caldwell, was created as part of the store’s development.

According to a news release from ShopRite of West Caldwell, Gladstein took over his father’s Sunrise Market in West Caldwell in 1948, later transitioning it to ShopRite before opening the former West Caldwell ShopRite on Passaic Avenue in 1967.
These days, his son Ned Gladstein and granddaughter Dara Sblendorio – third and fourth-generation grocers – continue the family legacy with the new ShopRite of West Caldwell at 900 Bloomfield Avenue.

Earlier this month, the Gladstein and Sblendorio families joined members of their retail team to celebrate Irving Gladstein’s lasting impact with a street sign unveiling.
