Week in Review: Caldwell's Best Local Stories

An armed robber attacks at the Caldwell Community Center, the West Essex marching band wins big, and a football team raises awareness.

Armed Robber Accosts Victim at Caldwell Community Center
A victim was robbed at gun point in the Caldwell Community Center parking lot on Thursday, Oct. 2. Police stated that the suspect is a thin black male, approximately 5’8”, with a scruffy beard or partial goatee. The robber displayed a silver handgun and demanded that the victim give him everything he had. The victim then walked into Borough Hall and reported the robbery. Grover Cleveland staff and students were warned by Police to stay inside for recess.

West Essex Marching Band Wins Top Prize at Roxbury Competition
On Sept. 27, the West Essex Marching Knights traveled to Roxbury High School for the Roxbury Classic Marching Band Competition. The Marching Knights won first place in their group and swept all the specialty awards of Best Music, Best Visual, Best Color Guard, and Best Percussion for their group. The West Essex Marching Knights will host the Tournament of Bands Chapter X Championship on Sunday, Oct. 19 at the West Essex Travis Field on the West Essex Campus on Greenbrook Road in North Caldwell.

Caldwell Football Game Builds Leukemia Awareness
The Caldwell-West Caldwell School District James Caldwell and Cedar Grove communities to participate in their Leukemia Awareness event during our football game on September 27 at 1 PM on Bonnel Field, West Caldwell. Football fans came out in droves, creating a sea of orange in the stands to support all those coping with Leukemia.
