West Essex Middle Schoolers Celebrate the Season With Spanish Fiesta
The students sang songs in Spanish and enjoyed traditional Spanish fare while learning about Spanish culture.
West Essex Middle School Spanish students recently spent their Spanish classes engaging in a special fiesta which included singing holiday songs in Spanish, dancing and enjoying Spanish foods as part of the food unit “Vamos a un Restaurante.”
As part of the Dec. 22 holiday celebration, students sang and danced to songs including “Feliz Navidad,” and tried flan and Tres Leches cake. Aide Mary Longdon spoke to students about Chanukah. Some students wore sombreros and others danced with maracas.
“Our objective was to give our students an opportunity to feel, see and participate in a mini version of the Spanish style Holiday celebration,” Spanish teacher Raquel Williams said.

An energetic Mrs. Williams danced around the room and taught students the words to many Spanish holiday songs. Students in Spanish classes taught by Mrs. Williams and JoAnn Salzarulo participated in the festivities.
