West Essex Track Team Shatters School Record

The winter track team recently broke the 4X400 indoor school record. The North Caldwell team is ranked in the top 20 teams in the state.

The West Essex Regional School Winter Track 4 X 400 meter team broke the Indoor School Record on Jan. 3 with a running time of 3:34.44 at the Essex County Championships.

The previous school record of 3:37:87 was set last year at the NJSIAA Indoor Track Group 2 Championships. The West Essex 4 X 400 meter team is currently ranked first in North 1 Group 2; fourth in Group 2; and 20th in the State of New Jersey all groups including non-public schools.

Returning state sectional champion Isaiah Rodri is also currently ranked first in the indoor high jump in North 1 Group 2. He finished second in the Essex County Championships on January 3 and first in the Gardiner Classic on Dec. 20 and first at the Deshriver Invitational, an open meet with 30 schools at Drew University, on Dec. 22.

Farukh and Liam are currently ranked first and second respectively in the 55-meter dash in the North 1 Group 2 Sectional.

The 4 X 400 meter team is composed of the following students, pictured left to right, senior captain and returning state sectional champion senior Farukh Bhatti of Essex Fells, sophomore Liam Fost of North Caldwell, junior and returning state sectional champion Isaiah Rodriguez of Fairfield, senior and returning state sectional champion Leonard Mendola of Roseland and sophomore Anthony Steets of Roseland.
