New Officer Sworn In To Chatham Borough Police Department

CHATHAM, NJ — A new police officer was hired and sworn into the Chatham Borough Police Department this week.
Zachary Perrony took the oath of office during the May 22 Borough Council meeting.
"Congratulations, Mr. Perrony. Welcome," Chatham Borough Mayor Thaddeus J. Kobylarz said.

Perrony, of Newark, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Essex County College before enrolling in the Essex County College Police Academy, where he graduated with a 95.5 percent in May 2022.
Up until recently, Perrony worked for the Newark Police Department, where he became certified in first aid and basic life support.

"It's an important occasion for the police department. The winds have changed both within the department and within policing at large," Chatham Borough Chief of Police Brian Gibbons said. "It represents the growth and evolution within the Chatham Borough Police Department, especially during difficult times in policing. It's a daunting burden that underscores the need for the right person with the right character and skill set."
Perrony was hired as a Probationary Police Officer for the Borough of Chatham Police Department on May 22, according to the Chatham Borough Council, with a salary of $55,881.48.
"I want to congratulate Zach for representing himself with tremendous maturity and sincere character. His recollection of scenarios and his delivery in the scenario-based interview process was one of the better interviews I've ever witnessed," Gibbons said.
The Chatham Borough Police Department takes pride in providing the community with quality and professional law enforcement services.
