The Chatham High School Business Club recently took a trip to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford for Sports Business Day.
CHATHAM, NJ — Several Chatham High School students recently visited MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford as part of Sports Business Day to get a behind-the-scenes look at the sports industry.
The trip, which took place on Oct. 19, was sponsored by the New York Jets, who have been hosting the program for several years. Members of the Chatham High School Business Club spent the day at MetLife Stadium learning the ins and outs of the NFL business.
The purpose of the trip, which was hosted by the NFL team, was to learn about the inner workings of sports management directly from professional executives

"Our hosts from the New York Jets organization were very personable, very well received, and provided us a great glimpse into what they do and how they got there," Chatham High School Business teacher and Business Club advisor Pete Steinmetz said.
Upon arrival, students joined two or three other schools to form their tour group. Each tour group was rotated between various locations within the facility complex. There was a guest speaker from the Jets organization at each location.

"Students overwhelmingly reported enjoying the entire event. They found the complex, and the facilities within, impressive to explore both physically and functionally," Steinmetz said.
According to the club, the majority of guest speakers were executives in charge of one aspect or division of the franchise or facility, or who served in a specific role for the franchise or facility.
Speakers told students about their own paths to the position, provided career advice and business insight, and discussed current events and anecdotes.
Following the presentations, the speakers opened the floor to questions and answers, which the students, according to officials, found beneficial.
"I really enjoyed learning about the business aspect of a sport that I watch weekly. The entire experience was incredible, from walking on the field to touring the Jets locker room. It was an amazing opportunity to learn directly from experts in this field, and I am so glad that we were able to go on the trip," Adi Sinha, Vice President of the Business Club, said.
Each year, the Jets host the Sports Business Day event, which attracts a large number of high schools from the surrounding area.
