14-Year-Old Arrested in Armed Robbery Attempt, Police Say

The incident happened in Camden's Morgan Village.

A 14-year-old boy who was part of an attempted gunpoint robbery of a taxi driver in Morgan Village Monday night faces multiple charges after being arrested, Camden County Police said.

The boy, who wasn't identified because of his age, was one of four involved in the attempt after the cab dropped them behind Crestbury Apartments, police said, and ran distraction while another pulled a handgun on the cabbie.

The driver was able to take off without being hurt or handing over any money, police said, and found Camden County Officer Matthew Germscheid on a walking patrol nearby.

Germscheid and other officers were able to find the 14-year-old, who police said wasn't armed, and arrested him.

“Through our community policing efforts, having an officer walking in the neighborhood, we were able to quickly address this incident and make an arrest,” said Chief J. Scott Thomson. “We will continue to address quality of life issues throughout the city.”
