Camden County Rolls Out Pets4Vets Program

The Camden County Freeholders announced a new program Tuesday aimed at pairing pets with vets.

"This program is a small thank you to our veterans who have selflessly served our country," said Freeholder Deputy Director Ed McDonnell, liaison to the Camden County Office of Veterans Affairs.  "This program will provide our men and women in uniform with companions from the shelter that will supply unconditional love to the most valued members of our society."

The program is open to all active military, reservists or veterans.  Camden County residents meeting the criteria of the program will have their adoption fee waived. The animal shelter will need valid military identification to waive the adoption fee. If you are veteran and do not have an identification you can go to the office of veteran affairs located on Collier Drive in the Lakeland complex in Gloucester Township. 

In addition to this new program, the Freeholder Board recently announced plans for a $3.5 million upgrade for the shelter over the next two years. This year’s budget includes $2 million for the renovation and expansion of the animal shelter, which is already underway.  An additional $1.5 million is projected for the next year’s budget for the construction of a new adoption center expected to open by the end of 2014.
