Cherry Hill Man Fired Gun After Fight with Wife, Police Say

James W. Stephans faces multiple charges stemming from a Monday incident, according to police.

A Covered Bridge Road resident was arrested Monday after and faces multiple charges after firing a handgun following an argument with his wife, Cherry Hill Police said.

James W. Stephans, 60, pulled the gun in the course of the domestic dispute, police said, pointing it at one of his wife's friends who came to the house in the 500 block of Covered Bridge Road after she called for help.

That man took off running, and after that altercation, Stephans fired a single round inside his home, police said, which went through an exterior wall and hit a neighbor’s home, where it was found lodged in a siding shingle. No one was hurt in the shooting, police said.

Stephans was charged with possession of a weapon fro an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, and was taken to the Camden County Jail in lieu of $100,000 full cash bail.

He faces an initial appearance in Superior Court in Camden on Oct. 23.
