Cherry Hill West Football Ends Playoff Drought

The Lions will qualify for the South Jersey, Group 4 tournament, based on current projections.

A 40-year playoff drought has come to an end for Cherry Hill West’s football team.

The lone team in South Jersey to never make the playoffs since the state went to the current format in 1973, the Lions held on to the No. 8 seed in the section, thanks to a loss by Toms River East and a win by Woodrow Wilson Saturday.

West head to Timber Creek for a quarterfinal game next week, though the Lions will have to do it without quarterback/defensive back Rodney Williams, who is officially done for the season after breaking his leg against Woodrow Wilson, in what was the last win for West.

Timber Creek already owns a win over the Lions earlier this season.

The Lions had to sit and wait on the outcome of the two Saturday games after falling to Camden Catholic Friday night, in what was a must-win game for both teams.

Non-Public Group 2 Playoffs

Camden Catholic grabbed the No. 4 seed in the section and will host a home game to open the playoffs, and they’ll face a familiar foe, as well, drawing No. 5 Bishop Eustace in the shortest possible road trip for two teams in Non-Public 2.
