Cherry Hill West Football Takes on Moorestown [Photos]

The Lions saw their win streak snapped against the Quakers.

Cherry Hill West saw a dream game turn into a nightmare Friday night.

Coming out of halftime, the Lions had it all—they'd forced three turnovers, shut out Moorestown on defense and racked up 13 points to take a comfortable lead.

It only took two series for everything to unravel.

After punting on a three-and-out, the Lions had trouble containing Quakers running back Anthony Williamson, who scored a nine-yard touchdown to get Moorestown on the board in the third quarter.

Four plays later, the Lions were forced to punt again, and Moorestown's Tyreek Robinson found a seam on the return and went 53 yards to put Moorestown up, 14-13—a lead they'd never relinquish in what turned into a 41-13 loss for West.

Already missing quarterback/defensive back Rodney Williams, who broke his leg against Woodrow Wilson last week, the Lions took even more of a beating—at least five players were knocked out of the game at various points, with everything from cramps to what appeared to be a helmet to the back of the leg leaving gaps in West's offense and defense.

While most of those players were able to return, the Lions lost John Bendig and Ryan Wimmer in the first and second halves, respectively, and their absence couldn't be ignored.

Moorestown was able to open more holes and close down running lanes for West, and the turnover margin flipped the other way—the Quakers got a 97-yard interception return for a touchdown by Quinton Law to blow the game open, and picked off another Joey Argentina pass late to seal the game.

The loss drops West to 4-2 on the season, but may not ding the team's playoff hopes too badly. West sat in seventh place in the power points standings after beating Wilson, and still has games remaining against Bishop Eustace and Camden Catholic before the playoff cutoff date.
