Dead Infant Hidden In Trash Bag; Caretaker Charged: Camden Co. Prosecutor

The baby's cause and manner of death are unknown because of 'the condition of the body' during the autopsy, authorities said.

CAMDEN, NJ — A woman was arrested Monday after an infant in her care was found dead in a trash bag at a Camden home two months ago, authorities said.

A witness found the infant dead on May 19. Authorities then went to the home and found the baby's body in a trash bag within a bassinet, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

Medical examiners could not determine the baby's cause or manner of death because of "the condition of the body," the prosecutor's office said Tuesday. The agency is urging anyone with information on the infant's death to contact authorities.

The suspect, Ebony Gee, began caring for a friend's baby in mid-April, spending time with the infant in a second-story bedroom on the 1200 block of Lakeshore Drive, authorities said.

A witness told law enforcement that they never observed the baby boy inside the home, and Gee wouldn't let them see him.

On May 19, the witness ultimately entered the bedroom, found the baby boy was dead, and alerted authorities, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. Gee sent threatening text messages to the witness the next day, authorities said.

On Thursday, DNA results from a State Police lab confirmed the baby's identity. Prosecutors publicly identified him as 4-month-old W.H., of Philadelphia.

Detectives spoke with the infant's biological parents and confirmed Gee had been taking caring for the baby for them, authorities said.

Gee, 43, of Philadelphia, was charged Friday with second-degree desecration of human remains and witness tampering.

A fugitive task force of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Gee on Monday in Philadelphia. She was jailed in Philadelphia, with extradition to New Jersey pending.

Gee did not have a listed attorney in online court records on Tuesday.
