CHERRY HILL, NJ — Dick's House of Sport, a supersized sporting-goods store with recreational facilities, plans to open at Cherry Hill Mall next year.

The store differs from a traditional Dick's Sporting Goods, offering a climbing wall, simulated golf bays, and a multi-sport cage to test out equipment for baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer. It will also have an outdoor track and field.

It's expected to open sometime in 2026, according to PREIT, the company that owns Cherry Hill Mall.

Dick's House of Sport will replace One Cherry Hill — the longstanding office building in the mall lot that was slated for demolition in PREIT's plans for the new store.

The store will have a footprint of 60,000 square feet — 120,000 square feet overall, since it'll be two floors. A synthetic surf field surrounded by a track will add another 18,500 square feet, according to plans Cherry Hill officials approved last year.

Once the project is complete, Cherry Hill Mall's parking lot will have a few more parking spots than before. But 230 spaces will be eliminated during demolition and construction.

PREIT, which owns several malls in the region, has financially struggled in recent years. In December 2022, the company declared bankruptcy for the second time since 2020. PREIT emerged from bankruptcy a few months later as an entity managed by a small group of investment firms.

Despite PREIT's struggles, Cherry Hill Mall has long been considered the company's crown jewel. Continued additions to the mall's portfolio, including Dick's House of Sport, will "underscore PREIT's broader vision to focus on properties for strong, long-term growth," the company said Thursday in a statement.

Dick's House of Sport has about 20 locations scattered throughout the nation. The closest to South Jersey is in Wilmington, Delaware.
