First-Ever Event Will Honor Cherry Hill's Heroes, Organizers Say
A donation of $50 allows that contributor to remember someone special to them, a member of the Garden State Rotary said.
CHERRY HILL, NJ — The Garden State Rotary said it hopes to turn the field at 470 E. Evesham Road field in Cherry Hill into a sea of red, white and blue in September.
To that end, the organization is collecting donations for its first-ever Flag for Heroes event, Garden Rotary Club President Abby Walters said.
A $50 donation allows that contributor to dedicate a flag in honor of someone special to them, she told Patch.

"People have dedicated a flag in memory of the men and women who are serving or have served as members in the military [as well as] police officers, firefighters, first responders, parents, teachers, coaches, mentors, community leaders ... for all the people who have made a difference in their lives," Walters said.
The donations benefit future service projects in Cherry Hill, she added.

The flags will be placed on the field at 470 E. Evesham Road during an event being held there at noon on Sept. 11, she said. The flags will stay on the field for one week after the event for the public to visit, she also said.
"For some visitors, it is a place of contemplation. For others, it is a place to run with their children through a sea of red, white and blue," Walters said. "For everyone, it becomes a place of reflection for the people who have been the heroes in our lives."
