I-76 West Closing For 6 Months: What South Jersey Commuters Should Know
Most roadwork will take place nightly in Philadelphia. But the project could have wide-ranging commuter impacts.
PHILADELPHIA — Traffic on Interstate 76 in Philadelphia will be impacted by bridge work for half a year.
Fortunately for most South Jerseyans who work in the city, construction is scheduled to take place outside of typical commuting hours. But the $148.9 million project rehabilitating multiple bridges could have wide-ranging travel impacts in Greater Philly.
The project involves the bridges that carry Market Street over Amtrak and I-76, the Schuylkill River Trail, and CSX Railroad in Center City.

Beginning Sunday, drivers on I-76 West will encounter lane restrictions and closures through June 1.
I-76 West will be reduced to one lane between the 30th Street and Interstate 676 interchanges from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays.

Additionally, I-76 West will be closed and detoured between the 30th Street and I-676 interchanges from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. The closure will also be in effect Sundays through Thursdays.
Drivers will be directed to exit at 30th Street and travel west on Schuylkill Avenue to access the ramps to I-76 west and I-676 east.
Due to the upcoming holidays, no overnight closures will occur from Dec. 21 through Jan. 3.
Drives are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because significant backups and delays will occur.
All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.
