Lions, Irish Will Host First-Round Field Hockey Games

Cherry Hill East has to hit the road to Toms River to start out the state tournament.

Five wins was enough to earn Cherry Hill West’s field hockey team a first-round home game, and they’ll kick off the start tournament against No. 10 seed Manalapan in the Central Jersey, Group 4 tournament Wednesday.

Camden Catholic will also get to host at least a second-round game, after the Irish netted a first-round bye in the Non-Public South tournament—a new division for the playoffs this year.

The Irish will wait to find out the winner of No. 5 Red Bank Catholic and No. 12 Gloucester Catholic, which won’t be decided until Saturday in the opening round.

The Cougars will have to get in the bus and make the long ride through the Pine Barrens up Route 70, where it’ll be a battle of the Easts in Toms River Wednesday.

Both West and East potentially draw a Freehold team in the second round—with a win, West would travel to Freehold Township in the second round; East would get a date with Freehold Borough if it can get through Toms River East.
